EXCITING NEWS FOR CALIFORNIA THERAPISTS AND CLIENTS (Sort of)

Get used to this term “The Regulated Psychedelic Facilitators Act and the Regulated Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Act.” This act is also known as SB 1012.
Introduced by Senator Wiener in February 2024, this bill is currently stalled in the Appropriations Committee due (presumably) to budget concerns. This means that the bill may return at any moment or be stalled in committee until next budget year.
This bill will establish a Board of Regulated Psychedelic Facilitators, the Regulated Psychedelic Substances Advisory Committee, and the Division of Regulated Psychedelic Substances Control. This bill will establish licensing and procedures for Psychedelic Facilitators to assist client through a psychedelic journey to address some mental health issues.
The Psychedelic substances that may be included in this legislation include DMT, mescaline (not from peyote), MDMA, and psilocybin/psilocin.
Like Oregon, the act will develop four groups psychedelic-assisted therapy including. (1) the manufacturer of the substance, (2) laboratories used to confirm the safety of the substances, (3) service centers, and (4) facilitators. The dates that the law will take effect are up in the air depending on when the legislation moves through all committees.
